Writing an Introductory Textbook on Sanātana Dharma for a Global Audience
Main Article Content
Abstract
The appropriate presentation of Sanātana Dharma at an introductory level for a broad contemporary audience is considered. The chosen framework is based on the Vedic concept of Upaniṣads, going from an easily accessible introduction to an exploration of the classics and the research. Each chapter is concluded with a summary explanation modeled after ‘Vedānta’. The core values and the organization of the literature base are considered. A logical progression to Bhakti is explained, followed by a discussion of the attempts at reunification and revival. Some difficult issues are considered. Comparisons with other religions are avoided. Issues and experience in publication are considered for the benefit of those who might follow our path.
